Séamus developed his passion for Ireland's natural world during
childhood exploring the sheltered bays and coastal woodlands of
West Cork. After completing his environmental science degree at
UCC in 2008, he spent five years as a research assistant with
the Irish Wildlife Trust, conducting population surveys of
harbour seals across the southern coast. His breakthrough came
in 2013 when his documentary work on seal behaviour in
Glengarriff earned recognition from the Irish Wildlife Media
Awards.
What drives Séamus is bridging the gap between scientific
conservation work and public understanding. He's become a
trusted voice in nature journalism, contributing to RTE's
natural history programmes and leading guided walks that educate
visitors about local ecosystems. When people truly understand
their local wildlife, they become its best advocates. His
approach combines field observation, ecological data, and
storytelling to reveal the remarkable natural heritage found in
places like Glengarriff's bamboo park and the harbour seal
colonies that call these sheltered waters home.
